Pluto Never forget. Did you learn in grade school that Pluto was a planet? Well... Pluto was demoted in August of 2006 on the last day of the International Astronomical Union meeting. Only 428 of the 10,000 members were on hand to vote on the new definition of a planet. Hayden Planetarium had already demoted Pluto in their exhibits even before the ruling, other museums and textbooks are being re-done now. Thanks a lot Neil DeGrasse Tyson!!!
